Why he is advising Hayat

The launch is being led under his consultation.

Michael is advising the founding group on how to open Hayat Academy the right way: the state compliance steps, the academic program, hiring a leader and teachers, and the financial controls that keep a school trustworthy from the first day. Everything he prepares for the school is written down and shared with the founding group.

Michael serves as an outside advisor. Hayat Academy is in formation, and joining the family interest list is not an application for admission and does not guarantee a place or a start date.
Inside Islamic schools

Students at As-Suffah beat the national growth norm in every grade.

At As-Suffah Academy in Minnesota, Michael guided the school through Cognia and CISNA accreditation while its students beat the national NWEA growth norm in every grade, K through 8. Watch him talk through those academic results.

At Al-Madinah School in Brooklyn, the largest Islamic private school in New York State, his trainings have run across two school years, with excellent feedback from teachers every time. He is guiding Islamic schools through the Cognia and CISNA process now, has served schools from Ontario to Wichita to San Diego, and presents within the national networks of MUNA (Muslim Ummah of North America) and IANA (Islamic Association of North America).

The record in public education

Districts pay for this work, and their leaders sign for it.

Michael built his classroom career inside public schools, teaching elementary, middle and high school in the United States and internationally. In Minneapolis he led professional development and school-turnaround work with Minneapolis Public Schools, and helped reform a high school on the brink of collapse, lifting its climate scores to the best in the district.

His seminars have been held at Ohio State University, the University of Washington and Hamline University, whose School of Education endorsed his work. Roughly two hundred districts have approved his training for continuing-education credit.

He holds a master’s degree in education from Hamline University, a bachelor’s from the University of Minnesota, and teaching licenses in ESL and Communication Arts.
